I’m an energy engineer who enjoys turning complex systems into clear, useful knowledge.

Energy Engineer- I audit industrial and commercial facilities, study how energy moves through equipment and processes, and publish what I learn. This site is where I share practical explanations, lessons from the field, and ideas that can help the industry operate more efficiently and sustainably. The views and opinions expressed on this site are my own and do not represent those of my employer.

Twenty-four hour electrical demand profile Two curves over one day. The upper curve is a facility's metered baseline demand; the lower curve is the same facility after efficiency measures. The gap between them is the avoided energy.

I work on the unglamorous middle of decarbonization: the compressed air line that leaks, the air handler that runs at full speed all night, the process heater nobody has trended since commissioning. Finding those is a measurement problem before it is an engineering problem, which is where my training comes in.

My M.S. in Industrial Engineering at West Virginia University was built around quantitative analysis — regression modeling in R and Python, large public datasets, and the statistics needed to defend a savings number to a utility reviewer. My thesis used U.S. county-level socio-economic and demographic data to understand how socioeconomic and demographic factors shape energy consumption. It produced one peer-reviewed paper and a review article.

Alongside that, I ran more than a dozen ASHRAE Level I–II assessments through the WVU Pollution Prevention Lab. Today I do the same work at Energy Sciences: on-site assessment, custom savings calculations, incentive validation, and post-install Measurement and Verification.

Before the U.S., I designed solar arrays and pumping systems with SunFarmer Nepal and studied the economics of moving Nepal's motorcycle fleet off gasoline. That work still shapes how I think about efficiency — as something that has to pencil out for the people paying for it.
